Chiddingstone Hoard

Chiddingstone Hoard

The Chiddingstone Hoard was found by a metal detectorist in 2016. The hoard of 10 gold coins has been verified by the British Museum as Iron Age from about 60-50BC and as these coins are usually found individually, it was very exciting to find a hoard. They were made by melting metal and pouring it into moulds to give a consistent size and, as consistent colour was also important, some silver and copper was added to the gold. They are now on permanent display in the Eden Valley Museum, free for all to go and see. https://evmt.org.uk/chiddingstone-hoard/
