Tonbridge to Penshurst Cycleway

Tonbridge to Penshurst Cycleway

 Activities

An excellent, almost entirely traffic-free, ride from the heart of Tonbridge alongside the River Medway, out into the countryside as far as the glorious buildings of Penshurst Place 5 miles away. The ride follows Regional Cycle Route 12 from Tonbridge Castle, and heads west along the trail through Barden Park and Haysden Park, running alongside the river before crossing at Ensfield Bridge. You then pass Well Place Farm before finishing at Penshurst.  The 14th century house has a fascinating history, having been the birthplace of the great Elizabethan poet, courtier and soldier, Sir Philip Sidney who was a favourite of Elizabeth I.

The route is a fairly flat path so suitable for most abilities.
