The Vanguard Way

 Activities

The Vanguard Way is the ideal route for the walking enthusiast. At 66 miles (107 km) of beautiful walking, stretching from Croydon on the southern outskirts of London to Newhaven in East Sussex, the Vanguard Way can easily be covered within a week or less and passes within a stones throw of Edenbridge.

The route was established in 1981 and is lovingly managed by the Vanguards Rambling Club. A step-by-step route description and a detailed guide to accommodation and refreshments can be downloaded free from their website, and a badge and certificate are available on completion of the route, providing a little extra motivation for the longer stretches of the walk!

Vanguard Way traverses some of the best scenery in Southern England, including the North Downs, the Weald, Ashdown Forest and South Downs National Park, finishing along a spectacular stretch of the Sussex Heritage Coast. It follows peaceful footpaths and bridleways, goes through some delightful villages, and passes many places of interest including Titsey Place, Haxted Mill, Dry Hill Iron Age Camp, Tickerage Mill and Winnie-the-Pooh’s Galleons Lap!
